The Cletus Vette wants to RUN. I’m calling it runs a 14.1 with a proper driver and a 15.0 with me driving. Big mystery are the rear gears which I’m guessing are 3.90's but could be a 4.11 or the stock 3.55's.

Great Lakes Dragaway in Wisconsin, Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Byron Dragway in Byron, that’s about it.

Gearing is easy to check. But don’t take the tag’s word for it. Instead, get the rear off the ground and put the transmission in neutral. Then it’s just a matter of counting driveshaft revolutions vs. tire revolutions

Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, but you’ll have to come early for Friday night’s test and tune.

That’s quite optimistic as the 1970 Vette with a factory 454 ran 15's

Old cars are slow and cool, unless you dump a bunch of money in them... Ask me how I know.

Charlie and the Cletus-Vette need to meet at rallyX. They’re both perfect in every way.

Crap, if you go Friday I’ll miss it.

I am getting a late surprise anniversary/birthday present from my girlfriend that night that I’ve been waiting about 2 months for. Apparently it’s the best present ever, so I can’t miss out on that. Take video though!

If nothing has been changed the stock rear ratios for that vintage were these followed by the teeth counts. If you take the rear diff cover off, most of those years had the teeth counts for the set on the end of the pinion.

3.55r (32-9t), 3.36r (37-11t), 3.70r(37-10t), 3.08r(37-12t) and 4.11R (37-9t)

Thinking about it now actually.... They might not be a terribly match on a drag strip at the moment. Charlie’s under 2000 lbs, has very sticky tires, and has a blacktop in it. You’ll always get me in the long run, but the launch won’t be as laughable as it was when I had a 220k mile 16V with a hole in the piston. I’d launch it at autox by attempting a burnout. I’d get juuuust the right amount of wheel spin to launch without going below the power band.

You might be able to get a ballpark guess from that, but turning the driveshaft manually is by far the most reliable method.

Rather than turning the wheels once and trying to figure out if the driveshaft rotated 3.55 or 3.70 times, you can get a much more accurate figure by turning the wheels 10 times to shift the decimal. If the driveshaft turns 35.5 times, boom- you’ve got 3.55s in there.

If you come out early for the drag strip, I could possimaybe go there as well. Depends on my wife’s reaction.
